Overview: An extended 3 year warranty advertised on a watercraft that was purchased was only filed with the manufacturer as 1 year. Numerous calls resulted in no corrective action.

I purchased a Polaris Virage watercraft from them at the 2001 KC Mart Boat Show. They had a promotional flyer that had been remarked with a pen advertising a 3 year warranty on ALL models, not just 2 years on the TX. It was a big selling point they were pitching to everyone there.

Later that fall I unfortunately had to sell it, and the buyer called me awhile afterwards to say that the warranty wasn't showing up as 3 years. I called Polaris to verify the original warranty number I had, and it was only listed as 1 year with them. The person I spoke with seemed to imply that Polaris never does extended warranties and it was probably through a 3rd party.

Several calls over several months to Seebold Sports resulted in no action, although they did say it was a full Polaris warranty. I finally spoked to one of the head people who happened to be the gentlemen (Steve I believe) who sold it to me at the show. He assured me he would fix the problem, and I relayed this message to the new owner.

This shouldn't have happened in the first place, and I wonder how many other show buyers might have run into this as well! It also shouldn't have taken several months to get someone to take care of the problem. I don't honestly know if they ever did get it corrected, but I have never heard back from anyone.

Update: I received this response from them on 8/16/04 -

Hello Jeff,
I am very sorry that you along with a few other customers had a problem
with the watercraft extended warranty not showing up in the Polaris system
as the correct length of coverage. I can assure you that all of us at
Seebold Sports did everything possible to correct the situation which
included working with the upper management in the watercraft division.
This situation was due to Polaris switching companies that underwrites
the Polaris Extended Warranty coverage. The warranty that you purchased
was through Polaris but they have other companies underwrite the extended
warranties just like a lot of manufactures. Again we are sorry for the
inconvenience that this may have caused but this was not a situation that
the manufacture had to correct and it was out of our control.
    Sincerely
    Tim Seebold
