Overview: Telemarketing phone calls to get you to listen to their sales pitches promise a free small gift. Two times I have participated and received nothing. Also saw the same behavior from another water softener company.
I ended up even purchasing the water softener & filtration system for my house after the first sales pitch. Then they signed me up for auto-delivery of softener pellets without asking. At the time of purchase I was the only one living there. I was tempted to keep them for free, but ended up paying the bill, but NOT the $5 late fee.
The initial full container of potassium pellets lasted me over a full year, but they were going to delivery 5 bags twice a year! It's been almost 2 years since I've had the system, and even with two of us now, I still have not used the 5 bags.
Anyways back to the topic. About a year after the water softener purchases I got another call offering a free bag if I would listen to a security system sales pitch by a partnering company they highly recommended. Well I already have one but I listened anyways and declined despite their persistence and trade-in offer. Turns out they brought me a bag of SODIUM pellets, where if they had half a brain they would have already known my system takes POTASSIUM. The two gentleman said they would return with the correct bag, and never did.
Another company, Quality Water Service, in the KC area called sometime after the last one. They just wanted to ask a few questions and offer to come out and give me a free $10 gift card to Home Depot I believe. Looking at the Caller ID I asked if this was for a water test. Only then did they reveal the purpose of the call! I told them I already had a softener and they promptly said goodbye and hung up, the gift card promptly 'vanishing'.
