My Experiences with my Katana
- This was my first motorcycle, bought in Sept '97. See my last comment
about this choice.
- Obviously this is more of a racing bike than the other two, designed
for speed, acceleration, and the occasional wheelie.
-
The handling isn't the best but it will corner better which is better for
racing. I've been told that replacing my bias-ply tires with radials will
result in a noticeable difference.
- A very quick machine out of 1st gear. I almost became a hood ornament
the second day I owned this bike due to this fact.
- Braking is quick and hard, as is needed for racing.
- The shocks are rather stiff at their current setting.
- As with most sport bikes, engine maintenance can be time consuming due
to the plastic bodywork that needs to be removed first. This applies
two-fold for Katanas.
- This is one of the most comfortable sport bikes out there. This is
very nice for someone like me with back problems.
- Katanas always have a very nice look and image, and I am more concerned
with that than with speed at this point in my riding career.
- Plastic bodywork and repair is expensive, and that's all I'll say about
that.
- This is a very fun, fast motorcycle. But it was a HORRIBLE choice for
a beginner in my opinion. I recommend at least taking a riding and safety
class before hopping on any sport bike as your first ride.
